2022 ANNUAL MEETING INFORMATION
The 56th Annual Meeting will be held March 3-6, 2022 at the Visalia Marriott and the theme is Archaeological Gatherings: Foodways and Community Resilience. Foodways as a concept brings together varied cultural, social, and economic threads of food production, distribution, and consumption. It also provides an essential confluence for framing an understanding of food in community traditions, stories, and history. Diet and subsistence studies focusing on procurement, distribution, food processing, management, and storage dynamics are of interest, but we encourage you to also consider how we can cultivate an understanding of community and foodways, past and present. This can include topics as diverse as food sharing, dining and consumption patterns, feasting and culinary practices, and varied community cuisines, customs, and traditions. Of course, there are many intersections of sociality, including status, ethnicity, gender, ideology, and politics. Finally, we encourage thought about the impacts of colonialism, as well as modern food issues and movements that highlight food sovereignty, sustainability, resilience, wellness, health, traditional ecological knowledge, and identity.
