CASSP volunteer Beth Armstrong spoke during the opening plenary session of the 2023 SCA Annual Meeting.

CASSP is the California Archaeological Site Stewardship Program. It recruits and trains public volunteers to help protect archaeological and historical sites by making repeated visits to assigned sites and report on their conditions. Volunteer site stewards work under the supervision of the archaeologists who work at the land management agency where the sites are located.

If you signed up for more CASSP information, then you should receive a one-time email acknowledgement from us. (updated March 20, 2023). The next online CASSP training session will be held on May 27, 2023. During this 6-hour Zoom webinar we will talk about ethics, safety, site stewardship duties and responsibilities, confidentiality of site information, and volunteer opportunities with featured land management agencies. Please register in advance  here with your name and email address.

A follow-up workshops consist of an in-person field day at one of the agencies featured in the webinar. In order to attend a field day, you must attend the webinar first. sign a confidentiality agreement to not reveal sensitive site information, and pay a $25 workshop fee.
